Pasco County Supervisor of Elections, Brian E. Corley, in partnership with the Pasco Council of Chambers, has announced the winners of the Pasco County fifth grade essay contest entitled "Freedom Requires Responsibility." First, second and third place prizes were awarded to the top three winners at the Central Pasco Chamber of Commerce General Membership Meeting on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2009, 11:30 a.m., at the Residence Inn Tampa Suncoast Parkway. Representative Will Weatherford was on hand to announce the winner.

First Place Winner who received $500 cash compliments of the Pasco Council of Chambers was Emma Gazaway, Imagine School at Land O' Lakes.

Second Place Winner who received 4 tickets to a Tampa Bay Lightning game valued at $400 compliments of Tampa Bay Lightning/Kids Voting Tampa Bay was Hannah Presson, Denham Oaks Elementary.

Third Place Winner who received a bicycle through private donation was Cheyanne Johnson, Quail Hollow Elementary School.

A total of 158 were submitted and judged by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The contest is part of our countywide education program and is in addition to our High School Voter Registration Drive, our Vote in Honor of a Vet Program presented the week of the Great American Teach-In this month, as well as our classroom presentations and school election program in partnership with Kids Voting Tampa Bay.

We would like to thank all who participated in making this contest possible and to extend a special thank you to the Veterans who donated their time judging the essays.
